    WORCESTER, April 7, 2009 —“The concern for these clients going to a typical run-of-the-mill retail pharmacy is that there’s a lack of privacy and often a lack of empathy on the part of the pharmacist,” says Daniel Apelian, All Care’s president and manager of operations.   • HIV/AIDS Rate in nation's capital "Higher Than West Africa"
    WASHINGTON, DC, March 17, 2009 — The rate of HIV/AIDS infection in Washington, D.C. is "higher than West Africa" reported MSNBC today, citing a story in The Washington Post that referred to a report due out Monday. Every mode of transmission for the virus and the disease is rising, from men having sex with men, and heterosexual and injected drug use. "The true number of residents currently infected and living with HIV is certainly higher," said a health official." Go here to read the MSNBC posting.   • APW receives nutrition grant from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
    WORCESTER, Feb. 18, 2009 — A $5,000 grant from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will be put to good use in APWs food bank and nutrition program. Says Tricia Price, nutrition specialist, "We understand the importance of culturally appropriate, fresh food as part of the nutrition therapy for our consumers. And in these difficult economic times, more and more people are accessing our food bank. We have even increased the number of times a month a consumcer can access the food bank from two times a month to three times a month. This grant is very much appreciated."   • Transgender Emergency Fund
    The Transgender Emergency Fund (TEF) provides critical financial assistance to low-income transgender and transsexual people. The TEF is currently fiscally sponsored by APW, but it is a volunteer-run effort with no overhead. Every penny raised goes directly to people in need.
