CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC COMPETENCY POLICY

APW strives to maintain a balanced representation of staff members consistent with the population we serve. The staff structure includes employees who are bilingual, bicultural, represent various sexual orientations, identify as HIV and/or Hepatitis C positive and are open about their recovery status. In addition, the staff has a high degree of skill in dealing with substance abuse, recovery, domestic abuse and other related social issues that may affect an individual’s quality of life.

The agency is committed to offering clients the ability to access services in their native language. If a staff member cannot linguistically address this need, the agency will contract with an interpreting service (with the client’s permission). All interpreters, including ones introduced by the client, will be required to sign a confidentiality statement. Clients will also be requested to sign a release for the individual(s) that accompany them to provide interpreting services.
