DESCRIPTION OF CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

CLIENT SERVICES:

ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY needs assistance with running client/children Christmas Party, donate food, toys, decorations. Set up hall, clean up hall, serve food, registration, run errands.

SUPPORT GROUP LEADERS are mental health professionals who facilitate support groups for various constituencies including people with HIV and AIDS, their friends, families and loves, as well as bereavement groups. Special training is required. Reports to Mental Health Consultant.

THERAPISTS are mental health professionals who would be willing to provide individual, couples and/or family counseling pro-bono or on a sliding fee scale. Reports to Mental Health Coordinator.

CASE MANAGER ASSISTANTS make weekly telephone calls to clients, fill out reports and handle such additional matters as may be assigned to them by advocates. One year commitment is required. Reports to Senior Case Manager.

FOOD BANK volunteers pick up food at the local food bank on Monday mornings and deliver the food to APW’s offices for distribution to clients. Volunteers who have access to a truck are particularly needed. Volunteers are needed at APW Offices to redistribute bulk food into individual boxes, and to provide food deliveries to clients’ homes. Reports to Food Service Worker.

DONATIONS VOLUNTEER(S) writes to various businesses and solicit donations for APW clients and programs. Reports to Development Assistant.

 

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH:

OUTREACH WORKERS assist APW and other local organizations in the distribution of educational information regarding HIV, AIDS and sex education and distribute condoms and bleach in the community. Workers are needed on weekday afternoons or weekday or weekend evenings. Reports to Director of Prevention and Education.

MSM PROGRAM in need of technical writer, artist, literature distributor, office help, phone work. Reports to Director of Prevention and Education.

 

RESOURCE CENTER:

VOLUNTEERS needed to assist in the acquisition, organization, and distribution of HIV-related multi-media information. Reports to Volunteer Administrator.

 

OFFICE SERVICES:

HOUSEKEEPING volunteers vacuum, trash removal, maintain restrooms, sweeps front door area of building.

DATA ENTRY volunteers enter data to keep databases current, and maintain accurate mailing lists. Reports to Volunteer Administrator.

RECEPTION DESK volunteers greet clients and the general public at APW’s offices, answer telephones and assist APW staff with clerical tasks as requested. Some training is required. Reports to Receptionist.

GENERAL OFFICE SERVICES volunteers help out with general clerical duties, mailings, and special projects in APW offices. Reports to Volunteer Administrator.

 

DEVELOPMENT:

SPECIAL EVENTS volunteers plan and work on special fundraising events organized by APW. These volunteers post flyers, coordinate logistics, donations and publicity, set up, clean up and staff events. Reports to Development Assistant.

 

All volunteers are encouraged to learn more about AIDS and HIV. All volunteers must sign a confidentiality statement. AIDS Awareness Trainings for all APW volunteers will be schedules.
